What is Groundschool?
Groundschool is a non-profit learning centre for the food and farming community, to share knowledge about regenerative systems of food production and teach the skills needed to make them happen.
We aim to inspire and enable members of the local and wider community to change the way they produce and consume food. We will do this through practical farming courses, food and cookery courses and health and wellbeing courses, amongst others. All courses will be aimed at evolving to an agroecological, regenerative food system.
Our sessions will be created and delivered through a collaborative partnership model, sharing the collective wisdom of many teachers and practitioners. Hosted on a working farm in Weston, Hertfordshire, we are developing a community of diverse enterprises whose projects will demonstrate the various aspects of agroecology as well as producing food for local communities.
Shaping the Future of Farming
By creating a unique environment where education meets real-world application, Groundschool plays a crucial role in shaping the future of agroecological agriculture in the UK.
Through Groundschool, we believe that education will support a long term change in farming practices by enabling farmers to make the journey towards a regenerative system. Additionally, it will create short and long term demand for regeneratively farmed produce through educating large food companies and individuals in the community to make different buying choices. Education will help participants understand why different choices are important, and give them practical skills to be able to make those choices in the way they farm, cook, grow, compost etc.
Our approach not only supports the development of individual learners but also contributes to the broader goal of creating a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector. We are a part of an agroecological movement spreading like a web of mycelia, with every collaboration, knowledge exchange, and inspired individual contributing to its development.
Courses are expected to begin upon the opening of the Groundschool building in 2026. Please consider joining our mailing list to stay up to date with news regarding our courses and more general updates!
